About

Experience

I offer person-centred counselling and psychotherapy, I am a member of the (British association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) insured, registered and adhere to the BACP guidelines https://www.bacp.co.uk/events-and-resources/ethics-and-standards/ethical-framework-for-the-counselling-professions.

I believe in the uniqueness and worth of every individual, I will work sensitively, respectfully and acceptingly without judgement.  I firmly believe the working therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is fundamental. I will work to develop a relationship, where you feel relaxed, safe and understood, in order to help you work deeper and lead to self-exploration.

I have been in private practice for the last 6 years, predominately in drug and alcohol addiction and specifically on alcohol harm reduction for West Sussex District Council, consistently achieving reduction outcomes.

NHS Bariatric Consultancy, running psychological CBT groups to support clients presenting with morbid obesity as well as being Team Leader for a bespoke Dementia Support hub in Chichester, opened in 2018, by Countess of Wessex.

I previously worked at Virgin and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, within HR, additionally I have had previous counselling experience with Havant Bereavement, Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis, NHS Western Hospital, CGL, Worthing College and SAGE Counselling, as well as attending many hours of CPD.

What does Counselling offer?

Sometimes we are held back by unhelpful thought process and behaviour, I have experienced many people in crisis who have made profound changes through the counselling process. Whatever, our stating point we can all make positive changes in our lives, this is empowering and will enable you to achieve your full potential, whatever that may be.

How does Counselling work ?

Life, relationships and work can be a struggle, we can all feel overwhelmed emotionally at times, left feeling unheard, alone and stuck.  Counselling can help with a deeper psychological examination of ourselves and change unhelpful thoughts, addictions or behaviors and gain new perspectives.

Counselling can help explore how our past influences our present and destructive patterns of behaviour, particularly with addictions, it can be an attempt at covering up underlying issues from the past.  Counselling will help you become aware of your behaviours and how past events or trauma's impact us in the present.  I recognise taking the first steps to ask for help can feel scary, so I will be empathetic, working at your own pace to manage difficult emotions, as and when they arise.

Anxiety, Stress and Depression escalate, if left without support and can disrupt our ability to work or maintain personal relationships.  Counselling can give you space to talk and build resilience and give you coping strategies.

I work holistically seeing mind and body as a whole, often improved physical health, changes our mental health and will shape our overall wellbeing.

With over 6 years Counselling and Psychotherapy to individuals and groups, I am happy to offer a package that suits you, either face to face, telephone or skype.

I have a genuine desire to help people, make positive changes and lead a happier life.

TESTIMONIALS

“ The service has been an absolute lifesaver for myself.  The professionalism and attention by my counsellor, Alison has enabled me to see the direction my drinking was taking me and he effect it was having on my own self-esteem and relationships with partner, friends and family.  Through the guidance of Alison I have been able to step back from the direction my drinking was taking.  The service is exceptionally good both in terms of being non-judgemental but also in helping you see the bigger picture and understand that alcohol does not rule your life”

“xxx and I would like to thank you most sincerely, for all the positive help and guidance that you have given xxxx.  You have given him belief in himself and his pride back, you have given him new pathways to walk, and we are so pleased to have met you. Xxxx has listened to your council and is acting on it, this is shown in his appearance, his manner and the ability to organise himself.  I have after 20 years, at last got most of my son back”

“ I wanted to thank you so much and I already miss our session.  You gave me great advice, tools and self-belief.  If it wasn’t for your help I think I would have been in a far vulnerable place”

“From being a daily drinker for many years, I am currently abstinent.  The counselling helped me realise that I was unable to cut back”

“Thank you for your hard work and dedication and for helping me to work things out”

“It was very helpful, supportive and made me feel more confident”

“Alison was extremely good and supportive”

“Having someone who doesn’t judge, who can offer a more balanced view and help me to see the situation more clearly, who take the panic and fear out of a situation, and helps, with the right words to unravel what has happened and why, and how best to approach the next stage or steps”

“Alison was amazing! It was ground breaking for me”

“My counsellor is an exceptional person, I have had many counsellors in the past, but I had never been able to open up to them at all or as much as I did with my counsellor.  I now feel I have some hope and faith in myself from a point where everything was just darkness.  I thank her very much
